The staff spotlight series celebrates and elevates all the people who make the UI College of Education such a special place to work. This spotlight recognizes the critical contributions our staff members make to the College of Education community in support of our faculty and students.
Kate Will has worked as a Communications Specialist in the Iowa Reading Research Center (IRRC) for three years.
Previously, she worked as a writing tutor in the University of Iowa Writing Center and was selected as a Fulbright Program English teaching assistant in Argentina. She earned a Master of Arts degree in linguistics from the University of Iowa. Will enjoys spending time outdoors, making pottery, and cooking new recipes such as homemade tortellini and spaghetti.
What does your job entail in the College of Education's Iowa Reading Research Center?
I coordinate the communications efforts at the Iowa Reading Research Center. This involves writing web copy, managing our blog, writing our monthly email update, and other writing tasks. I also coordinate the College of Education Writing Resource, which provides writing support to graduate students in the College of Education.
What is your favorite part about working at the College of Education?
I love supporting research efforts through writing!
What is your favorite memory as a Hawkeye?
Watching Hawkeye women's basketball during March Madness last year!
What are your hobbies, interests, or special talents? What would colleagues be surprised to know about you?
I used to teach pottery classes at the Robert A Lee Community Center downtown.
Where is your favorite place to eat in downtown Iowa City?

What is something on campus that you look forward to participating in or doing?
Tri-owa -- an indoor triathlon at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
