Elias Varon, an elementary education major and veteran, is proud to help other veterans consider pursuing a career in the field of education in his role as a Troops to Teachers representative.

Buffy Quintero (2011, MAT) was recently honored as the Elementary Art Educator of the Year by the Arts Educators of Iowa (AEI). This award is given annually to selected members of the Iowa arts education community who have shown stellar dedication to the craft of teaching art to children. Quintero works as an art teacher at Longfellow Elementary School in Iowa City.

Hill is currently working toward his goal of helping Native American youth at the University of Iowa by getting an MA in teaching, leadership, and cultural competency through the College of Education.

Jan Warren and Clar Baldus have been selected as recipients of the Art Educators of Iowa for the Distinguished Service Outside the Profession Award for 2020. This award is given annually to individuals who have shown stellar dedication to teaching art to children and young adults.

Susannah Wood, associate professor in Rehabilitation and Counselor Education, was awarded the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Professional Leadership Award.

Peggy Schwab, a second year Master's candidate in the College of Education's School Counseling program and Iowa LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Related Disabilities), is the 2020-21 Obermann Spelman Rockefeller Community Scholar.
