Incoming Students

Summer Family Orientation

Summer Family Orientation is an opportunity for staff to share information with parents/guardians and incoming students. Year 1 students and their families participate in a two-day UI REACH orientation. Students meet their peers, register for classes, and begin exploring campus. Parents connect with staff and fellow parents while exploring how to prepare their student to transition successfully to the UI REACH college experience.

Bridge Camp

Incoming students and their families are invited to our summer Bridge Camp each July! In combination with summer orientation for first-year students, Bridge Camp is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the university and its resources. The summer camp provides a space for incoming students to meet one another and kickstart their time at UI REACH!

Move-in

Move-in is in August, a few days before the University fall semester begins. UI REACH staff assist with registration, navigating the halls for move-in, and supporting UI REACH families as students settle into their new room. 

During the afternoon of move-in, UI REACH staff review staff supports, expectations, and the orientation schedule with students. 

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation further supports students in their adjustment to college life. For the first week of the semester, orientation events, including informational sessions, small group activities, and campus activities help students learn more about the University of Iowa and prepare for the UI REACH experience. Students learn about the weekly schedule, campus life, and campus navigation. Some of these leisure activities of orientation promote getting to know others and safety. 

Graduating Students

Transition Fairs

In their final year at REACH, graduating students develop e-portfolios to reflect on all they have learned during their time in the program and to create actionable plans for their future. Our transition fairs provide a space for students to present their e-portfolios to their classmates and teachers.
