The staff spotlight series celebrates and elevates all the people who make the UI College of Education such a special place to work. This spotlight recognizes the critical contributions our staff members make to the College of Education community in support of our faculty and students.
After only several months in her role as administrative services coordinator in the College of Education's Office of the Dean, Sonya Manley has already become a reliable presence in the Lindquist Center. You will see her at the desk greeting visitors, but she’s much more than just a friendly face.
Manley provides administrative support for both the Office of the Dean and the Office of Student Services, helping daily operations run smoothly. From overseeing the front desk to assisting students, faculty, and visitors, Manley is getting to know a lot of new faces very quickly.
Manley’s career path reflects a lifelong dedication to service and learning. She spent seven years in the U.S. Air Force as a Personnel Specialist, followed by seven years as a stay-at-home mom, which she calls her “best job ever.” She then worked for more than 15 years as a paraeducator in a PK–12 school district, where she obtained her Associate of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Paraeducator and Substitute Authorization licenses, before joining the University of Iowa. Her passion for education and providing support is evident and shines through in her work at the college.
