Lisa Bunn received the liveWELL Wellness Hero Award in March 2025 – nominated by Human Resources Coordinator, Michelle Hayes.
Bunn is an administrative services specialist at the Baker Teacher Leader Center in the UI College of Education, who earned the award due to sharing her time and talents as a certified yoga instructor. She leads a free monthly yoga session open to all faculty and staff, regardless of experience or skill level.
Wellness Heroes is a program to recognize faculty and staff members who are practicing healthy behaviors that are inspiring to others in the workplace. Wellness Heroes are nominated because they are contributing to a culture of health and well-being at the University of Iowa.
“Lisa goes above and beyond simply instructing yoga; she embodies a commitment to promoting holistic health in the workplace,” says Hayes in her nomination letter. “By offering these classes, Lisa has created a sense of community, helping colleagues connect outside of the traditional work environment, reduce stress, and foster a culture of well-being.”
Hayes says since the introduction of these monthly sessions, Bunn has demonstrated exceptional leadership by creating a welcoming space for all employees to improve their physical health. The accessibility of these sessions has encouraged many people to experience the benefits of yoga, including those who have never practiced before.
“Lisa’s dedication to supporting the health and wellness of our workplace has made a lasting impact, and we look forward to continuing to benefit from her expertise and passion for wellness,” says Hayes.
