Duhita Mahatmya, an assistant professor of learning sciences and educational psychology, was recently a guest on Iowa Public Radio’s “River to River” podcast.
Mahatmya, who is a former associate research scientist in the College of Education’s Grants and Research Services Center, has served as a research methodologist on several federally funded grants focused on creating school-based social-emotional interventions. Her research uses an ecological systems framework and mixed methods to examine youth academic and social development across family, school, and community contexts.
Mahatmya was part of an IPR panel that was assembled to discuss how UI researchers are tackling the achievement gap for rural students, unequal access to nutritious food, and communities that are not adapting to an aging population.
Led by “River to River” host Ben Kieffer, the panel delved into rural-focused research as well as collaborative efforts to improve opportunities and outcomes for rural communities.
