University of Iowa College of Education student Bodie Williamson has always been passionate about art.
A senior in the college’s Art Education program, Williamson was recently featured in an article by The Daily Iowan that highlights his artistic talents, including his senior art exhibit, “HOW LUCKY,” which was recently on display in UI’s Visual Arts Building.
The following excerpt is from that article:
“Bodie Williamson, a University of Iowa fourth-year student, has been passionate about art his whole life. Early signs in his youth pointed to what would grow into a burning passion. According to his mother, Sarah Williamson, he had a habit of doodling endlessly on every piece of paper he could when he was a child.
‘He’s always been intrigued by logos and art in all forms from the time he was young. He loved books and would spend a lot of time reading and just looking at the illustrations,’ she said. ‘He would draw on everything. From paper bags, to napkins, menus, envelopes, large sketch pads, and even homework assignments at school.’
This childhood love for scribbling eventually evolved into Bodie Williamson pursuing a degree in art education at the UI. Now, he chooses to explore and nurture his skills in the arts in any way he can.
In his time at the UI, he has taken every art class the university has to offer, explored various styles and forms, and spread his artwork throughout Iowa City at flea markets, art festivals, and displays.
Currently, Bodie Williamson is beginning to wrap up his college years with his senior art exhibit, ‘HOW LUCKY.’ Pieces from across his academic journey will be on display in the Visual Arts Building room E450 until Dec. 6, when he will close out the show with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
‘I called it that because I consider myself so lucky to have been able to spend the past four years making artwork and building relationships with the people I love,’ he said.
He also mentioned he enjoys the John Prine song of the same name.
Visitors to the exhibit will be greeted at the door by a box full of green entry tickets with a small introduction to Bodie Williamson and an expression of gratitude for attendance.”
