The College of Education welcomed several new administrative leaders in the last academic year.

Mark McDermott

McDermott named new associate dean of teacher education and student services

Mark McDermott, a nationally-recognized expert in STEM teaching and learning, is the new associate dean for teacher education and student services in the University of Iowa College of Education. McDermott, clinical professor of science education, formally began in his new position July 1 of 2021. He succeeded Nancy Langguth, who retired June 30, 2021 after successfully filling the role since 2015

Wesely named new College of Education associate dean for faculty, academic affairs

Pamela M. Wesely, a respected scholar in language education, was appointed the new University of Iowa College of Education Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs, in July of 2021.
Wesely, a College of Education multilingual education professor, succeeded Amanda Thein, who was selected as the new UI Associate Provost for Graduate and Professional Education and Graduate College Dean, beginning July 1 of 2021.

Liz Hollingworth

Hollingworth named interim DEO of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies

Liz Hollingwortheducational leadership professor in the University of Iowa College of Education, was appointed the interim departmental executive officer (DEO) of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, effective in August of 2021. Hollingworth succeeds David Bills, who died on July 15, 2021.
