Bobbie Bevins, academic/clinical program management specialist in the Department of Teaching and Learning, has been selected as a recipient of a 2019 University of Iowa Outstanding Staff Award.

The University of Iowa Outstanding Staff Award is given to six staff members who have made outstanding accomplishments and contributions that have significantly benefited the university. UI Staff Council coordinates the program with the Office of the President.Awardees will be recognized at the Faculty and Staff Awards Celebration Oct. 16th.

“In the past several years Bobbie has extended visibly and enthusiastically beyond the normal expectations of her position,” says Lia Plakans, departmental executive officer and professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning. “Many faculty members would tell you that Bobbie is the department, with deeper institutional knowledge than the six DEOs who have served in her department in her time. Her impact on the department, college, and university is exceptional and award-worthy.”

In her role, Bevins supports 40 full-time faculty and 75 part-time lecturers, 750 undergraduates and graduates and coordinates over 250 courses in the Department of Teaching and Learning. Bevins has also provided support for two new Master of Arts programs and an alternative pathway to teaching program. Additionally, Bevins is the former chair of the University of Iowa College of Education Staff Council and has been at the College of Education for 19 years.

“I take great pride in being able to say that I work for the College of Education at the University of Iowa. The feeling of community and support within the Lindquist Center is invaluable to allowing all of us to engage in work we enjoy and to perform it well,” says Bevins. “I see myself more as a background player in the great things being done here, and knowing that people recognize and appreciate what I do really makes me feel valued, and that means everything to me.”
