Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumna Kimberly Melloy (BA ’10 Elementary Education, endorsement in Special Education).

This is Melloy’s second year working as a Grade 5 teacher and Grade 5 coordinator at Gems American Academy in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. Prior to moving overseas, she worked for six years in the Iowa City Community School District as a 5th grade teacher.

“I feel lucky that I get to see how all of these students interact with each other and accept all of their differences, whether it be language, cultural or religious differences,” says Melloy. “Seeing the dynamics of the students at my school makes me feel so encouraged about the future of our world. I am lucky that I get to play a small part in shaping them into the young adults they will become.”

Melloy is grateful to the College of Education for giving her the confidence to enter into the world of education.

“I loved the close-knit feeling of the College of Education and how comfortable I felt talking to professors or staff,” says Melloy. “I have always been outspoken and willing to share ideas at any school I’ve worked at, and I really credit a lot of that ability and confidence to my time at the College of Education.”
