Workshop Description

Are you looking for publication venues to publish your course assignments, qualifying papers, or side research projects? Are you frustrated with navigating the journal article publishing process? Are you confused or overwhelmed by editorial and/or reviewer comments? In this workshop, participants will learn about diverse alternative modes of publication beyond academic journals available to graduate students (e.g., newsletter articles, blogs, book chapters), as well as develop an understanding of the behind-the-scenes publishing processes for alternative modes of publication. In addition, participants will learn practical strategies to prepare manuscripts for alternative modes of publication and respond to editorial feedback thoughtfully and skillfully. While examples are largely drawn from applied linguistics and multilingual education, this workshop is open to all graduate students interested in developing their publication literacy and boosting their confidence in navigating the academic publishing community.
