Kay Ramey, an assistant professor of Learning Sciences and Educational Psychology, was recently selected as a 2025 James N. Murray Faculty Award winner.
“The values embodied by the James N. Murray Award—centering student experiences, relationship building, and the design of supportive and enriching learning environments—are core to my values as an educator and education researcher,” says Ramey. “Winning this award is a real honor.”
The award was established by the Beta Iota Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa in 1985 in honor of the late James N. Murray, UI professor and past chair of the Department of Political Science.
The Murray Award honors a nontenured faculty member; typically, an early career scholar with less than six years of UI service, who has demonstrated outstanding rapport with students and created an exemplary classroom atmosphere.
“Getting to know students and their interests and supporting them on their learning pathways is one of the best parts of my job. I've been fortunate to work with so many passionate, creative, and hardworking students here at Iowa. I’m honored to know that the teaching and learning environments I’ve created have had a positive impact on them.”
Ramey will be formally presented with the award at a faculty and staff awards celebration on May 6.
