The staff spotlight series celebrates and elevates all the people who make the UI College of Education such a special place to work. This spotlight recognizes the critical contributions our staff members make to the College of Education community in support of our faculty and students.

Dorian Aragon has worked as an Operations and Faculty Support Specialist in the Department of Teaching and Learning for three years. He also serves on both the UI College of Education Staff Council and the College of Education's Social Wellness Committee, also known as the SoWell Committee, whose mission is planning and promoting events and activities to create a culture of physical and emotional health for our COE faculty and staff.

What does your job entail in the College of Education?
As a key member of the Teaching and Learning's administrative team, I oversee office operations, facilities management, and logistical support for faculty and graduate students. I provide executive-level assistance to the Department Executive Officer (DEO) and Associate DEO, ensuring timely project delivery and strategic initiative implementation.

What is your favorite part about working at the College of Education? 
My favorite part about working at the College of Education is the opportunity to support and interact with our dedicated faculty and staff who are passionate about education and making a positive impact on students' lives. I find it rewarding to play a behind-the-scenes role in helping our department run smoothly, and providing a welcoming space for our community.

What's your favorite memory as a Hawkeye?
UI Homecoming: Attending the events throughout homecoming week and watching the parade with my family!

What are your hobbies, interests, or special talents? What would colleagues be surprised to know about you?
Outside of the office, I'm a passionate baker, always experimenting with new recipes and flavors. Traveling is another one of my joys, and I love exploring different cultures and meeting new people. Colleagues might be surprised to know that I'm working on my event planner certification.

Where is your favorite place to eat in downtown Iowa City?
Saigon’s Corner.

What is something on campus that you look forward to participating in or doing?
UI Hawkeye Football!
