Would you like to earn a BA and an MA in five years? The undergraduate to graduate (U2G) program in Learning Sciences and Educational Psychology is open to any undergraduate major at the University of Iowa.

The U2G program is an efficient way for undergraduate students to earn a graduate degree with just one additional year of study. Please consult with your undergraduate advisor to see if this opportunity could work for you.

The Learning Sciences and Educational Psychology program helps students better understand learners, learning, and the varied environments in which learning can (or should) take place by providing opportunities to design, study, and collaborate.

Program Overview

Upon admission to the program and during their final year of undergraduate studies students complete combined coursework of undergraduate and graduate courses. Then, students complete one additional year of graduate courses (i.e., semesters 9 and 10). Your academic advisor will help guide you through the requirements for degree completion.

Questions?

Our LSEP program empowers students to:

  • develop principled understandings of how people think and learn.
  • use that knowledge for designing, implementing, and evaluating instruction, technology, and the social and material components of learning environments within and beyond the traditional classroom.
  • work in public and private sector organizations that include instructional, educational, and training arms—especially those that employ technology to support learning.

Our MA and PhD graduates are employed in instructional design, information technology, teaching, assessment, toy design, and both academic and non-academic research.

Our faculty study thinking and learning in formal (classrooms) and informal (maker spaces, outdoors, online) spaces. They have expertise in cognitive processes like conceptual change, spatial reasoning, interest development, and meaning making, and learning that is experiential, multi-modal, collaborative, technology-supported, and spans several disciplines.
