In the Department of Teaching and Learning, faculty are preparing today's teachers for tomorrow's schools. With a variety of certification areas at both the undergraduate and graduate level, our college has the right program for you. Experienced faculty provide opportunities for students to learn from cutting-edge technologies. In addition, faculty conduct cutting edge research, securing millions of dollars in external funding. Whether applying to an elementary or high school as a beginning teacher or a research university as a faculty member, our graduates are in high demand.

Multilingual Education Professor David Cassels Johnson  published a study examining how Iowa high school Spanish teachers can accommodate and uplift Spanish-speaking students.

Felderman juggles academics, parenthood on journey to becoming educator

College of Education graduate Kaitlin Felderman was determined to get her degree, juggling life as a student, spouse, parent, and commuter. Felderman, who was selected as the college's undergraduate student commencement speaker, says the most rewarding aspect of teaching middle schoolers is supporting their growth during a crucial developmental period.

U.S. Department of Education grant addresses teacher shortage, diversifies workforce

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded the UI College of Education a $1.26 million grant for a program that will partner with Iowa school districts, community colleges, and community partners. The program will support 40 high quality elementary teachers through coursework and field experiences, resulting in a Bachelor of Arts, a teaching license, and a K12 ESL endorsement in Iowa.
