Warren Merkel joined the University of Iowa College of Education this fall as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Language, Literacy and Culture in the Department of Teaching and Learning.

Merkel earned his doctorate in the Foreign Language and ESL Education program at the University of Iowa. He is a visiting professor and the interim director of the Writing Resource in the College of Education. He is interested in bridging cross-disciplinary conceptions of source-based writing and plagiarism and the role dialogic interactions can play in the process of writing and revision.

“I hope to help University of Iowa students apply their classroom learning beyond the walls of academe,” Merkel says.
