Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumna Chris Gibson (BS ’91 in Elementary Education).

Gibson has a rich history of working in education. She is about to enter into her 29th year of working in education and 5th year of being principal at Archibald Alexander Elementary School in the Iowa City Community School District.

Gibson says she loves the joy and excitement her students have for school and learning.

“My favorite part of the day is the morning when they come off the bus full of energy and smiles, so happy to be at school,” Gibson says.

Originally from New London, Iowa, Gibson credits the UI for helping her develop an interest in education.

“The UI is where my love for teaching began so many years ago,” Gibson says. “I vividly remember my children's lit class, methods classes, and my very first practicum experience at Horace Mann Elementary in first grade. So inspiring.”

Gibson still maintains an active partnership with the UI College of Education today.

“Today, as a principal, I continue a partnership with the UI College of Education to help our young educators get hands-on experiences at Alexander,” Gibson says. “We want to help our future educators and inspire that passion for teaching and learning.”
