Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumna Brooke Strahn-Koller (Ph.D. ’12 Educational Policy and Leadership Studies).

Strahn-Koller works as the Dean of Social Sciences at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She has worked in her current position for five years. Prior to that, Strahn-Koller was an Associate Professor of Sociology at Kirkwood for12 years.

“I love making a difference in the lives of students! As dean I have the ability to impact students on a much larger scale,” says Strahn-Koller. “I enjoy that I can support faculty and assist them in increasing student success within and outside of the classroom. I love being able to help students be successful.”

Strahn-Koller says she is grateful for the many wonderful professors at the College of Education. She is especially grateful to her advisor and dissertation chair, professor David Bills.

“All my professors modeled for me what it means to be great leaders,” says Strahn-Koller. “I can’t speak highly enough of David Bills. He was very inspirational, supportive, and pushed me to be the best that I could be even when I had some doubt. I work hard to do the same for the students I work with.”
