Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet Amy Roberts (BA 96’, Elementary Education, with a specialization in Early Childhood Education).

Amy Roberts has been teaching for more than 20 years in kindergarten and early childhood classrooms. Currently, Roberts teaches at Winnetka Community Nursery School in Winnetka, Illinois. This is her first year at Winnetka Community Nursery School.

Roberts says she loves spending her mornings with two and three year olds.

“My day is full of energy, laughter, and wonderful conversation,” Roberts says. “I love being a part of their wonderment as the children explore and learn about their world.”

Roberts says one of the most rewarding aspects of being an Early Childhood educator is that she is able to help parents and children receive interventions as needed.

“Early Intervention is so vital to success as a child progresses throughout their school years and into adulthood,” Roberts says.

The University of Iowa College of Education was instrumental in helping Roberts get where she is today.

“I still remember a film that was shown in one of my Early Childhood Methods class,” Roberts says. “This particular film detailed the characteristics of a ‘typical’ 3 year old’s morning at school, and it still rings true every morning in my classroom.”
