Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumna Allison Freitag (BA 05’ Arts in History- Secondary Education, endorsements in 5-12 American History, 5-12 World History, 5-12 American Government, 5-12 World Geography).

Currently, Freitag is in her fourth year working as the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) Facilitator for the Iowa City Community School District. As PBIS Facilitator, Freitag is responsible for working with K-12 schools across the district developing their school-wide behavior expectations. Before becoming PBIS Facilitator, she taught at South East Junior high in Iowa City. Prior to the Iowa City Community District, she taught at North Tama County Community School District in Traer, Iowa, Williamsburg Community School District, and the Iowa Juvenile Home in Toledo, Iowa.

Freitag believes in the power of utilizing PBIS as a framework for student success.

“By proactively addressing behavior, we can work to optimize student learning and assist students, teachers, and leaders in the district in achieving the best educational environment and opportunities possible.”

Freitag says many of her professors at the University of Iowa College of Education unknowingly became her biggest support system during her time at the UI.

“The passion the UI College of Education’s faculty has for building relationships with students is incredible and has shaped me into the educator I am today,” Freitag says. “I still stay in very close contact with many of my former professors and now consider some my great friends with whom I regularly call or visit for advice.”

Freitag’s husband, who also graduated from the University of Iowa College of Education, proposed to Freitag during the Iowa Homecoming parade right outside Iowa Book.

“Reflecting upon the impact of my college experience, it has definitely come full circle,” Freitag says. “After all, I returned to my "college town" ten years after graduation and have now made it home for our family of six.”
