Pascarella is an accomplished and prolific scholar, who holds the distinguished Mary Louise Petersen Chair in Higher Education. He has been a professor in the Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) program in the Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies since 1997.

He focused his research and writing on the impact of college on students, authoring almost 300 journal articles on this topic. He has also served on an estimated 50 dissertation committees and has mentored dozens of students, inspiring many of them to become renowned scholars in their own right.

After spending nearly 30 years at the University of Iowa College of Education, teaching and mentoring hundreds of graduate students, Deb Liddell, professor in Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA), will retire in the summer of 2020.

Liddell has won many awards throughout her career and led the development of the new Doctorate of Education (EdD) program, as well as shepherded the merger of the Student Development and Higher Education programs in 2010.

Greg Hamot has dedicated his career to promoting global education, democracy, and supporting his students in their pursual of social studies education.

Other achievements of Hamot’s during his time at the UI include helping establish the UI Center for Human Rights, where he served as both director and associate director, and helping coordinate International Day through the College of Education.

After more than 40 years in education, Leslie Schrier, associate professor in Foreign Language Education, retired from the University of Iowa College of Education in December 2019.

During her time at the College of Education, Schrier helped start the teacher education program in foreign language education and the doctoral program in Foreign Language and ESL Education, she taught thousands of graduate and undergraduate students.

Rori Carson, clinical associate professor in Teaching and Learning, retired from the University of Iowa College of Education in December of 2019.

Throughout her career, Carson’s research focused on effective practices in teacher education and the effects of university students on students in the public schools. Carson was the associate director of the UI REACH program before transitioning to a faculty role.
