Alumnus Jhoon (Jake) Chung (BA '96 Elementary Education) will be honored with a University of Iowa Distinguished Alumni Award on October 18, 2019. As a superintendent of schools in the suburbs of Chicago, Chung has dedicated his career to helping students achieve their dreams and continues to give back to his alma mater as a mentor, scholarship provider, and leader for the UI College of Education's Advisory Board.
Chung has also worked to create a community garden in Arlignton Heights, Illinois to help bring together residents of different socioeconomic backgrounds and cultivate a sense of community and help about five dozen low-income students succeed in school and their families be more secure overall.
