Iowa City West High School principal and University of Iowa College of Education alumnus Mitch Gross was recently named a finalist for the 2025 Iowa High School Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa.
This nomination for Gross, who received an MA in Educational Leadership, was highlighted in an article published by the Iowa City Press-Citizen.
The following excerpt is from that article:
“On Aug. 10, 2020, as a derecho whipped through Iowa amid a global pandemic three weeks before the start of the school year — Mitch Gross took a call that would send him on a thrilling ascent.
He was going to be the newest Iowa City West High School principal.
Nearly five years later, Gross has secured a spot as a finalist for the 2025 Iowa High School Principal of the Year by School Administrators of Iowa (SAI).
“‘When I found out I was nominated, I was very surprised; it's humbling. It's reflective of the great team that I work with, administratively and from a faculty and staff standpoint at West,’ Gross said. ‘I'm incredibly fortunate to have such outstanding students and families and then to be part of a district and community that supports education. I have so many built-in advantages that a lot of principals don't have.’”
