Two College of Education faculty members were recently recognized for their exceptional research.

Leah Zimmermann, a clinical assistant professor of special education, and Hyesun You, an assistant professor of science education, were bestowed with 2024 Meritorious Research Awards from the College of Education.

 This prestigious research award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their field.  

Zimmermann teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in instruction for and characteristics of students with disabilities. Her research focuses on effective reading interventions for students with or at-risk for reading disabilities and cognitive processes that underpin reading.

She has also received recent research accolades from the Council for Learning Disabilities and the Society for the Scientific Study of Reading.

Hyesun You

You, a longtime member of the National Science Teaching Association, is heavily vested in research that focuses on interdisciplinary learning and teaching, technology-integrated teaching practices, and assessment development and validation in STEM education.

The awards were presented at the college’s spring faculty and staff meeting and carry a stipend of $1,000.
