Why did you choose to study abroad with the Baker Teacher Leader Center Global Education Initiatives?
I chose to study abroad because I was motivated to step out of my comfort zone and learn more about communities outside of Iowa. I also enjoy helping people, so I was excited to work with students.
What were your big takeaways from the trip, in other words, how did the trip change you and what did you learn?
Throughout this trip, I was able to gain confidence in myself and grow as an individual. It is easy for society to group together people who identify as "Latinx" as the same. However, this trip has exposed me to the reality that each "Latinx" country has a unique rich culture.
Would you recommend this trip to others?
I would absolutely recommend this trip to everyone – especially first gen students.
What would you say to someone who was thinking about studying abroad?
You never know what you are capable of until you are faced with a new challenge. It's easy to doubt yourself that you shouldn't go on this trip because you don't believe you are qualified. The faculty on this trip are very helpful and everyone is working as a team. You will learn so much about yourself.
