John Wilson, former faculty member in Science Education, passed away on October 9, 2021.
Prior to coming to the College of Education, Wilson was a classroom teacher and science supervisor.
During his 31 years at the University of Iowa, he made an impact on hundreds of future science teachers, helped improve science curriculum instruction, and taught students to love science from an early age.
“As a science educator, he gave extra freedom to his students to extrapolate their ideas so that science can be taught in many ways,” says Wilson’s former advisee, Surachman Dimyati.
In addition to teaching science, he was an LGBTQ+ advocate, serving as editor for former newspaper for LGBT and HIV+ people in America’s Heartland called ACCESSline.
