Guess what day it is…? “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumnus Ken Arvidson (BS ‘15 Mathematics, Mathematics Education endorsement, ESL endorsement).

Ken began his career teaching mathematics at North Chicago Community High School. He taught there for three years and now is in his first year at Crystal Lake Central High School in Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Arvidson says he enjoys working in a school where his colleagues are committed to supporting each other.

“I love working in an environment that has many support systems in place with caring and hardworking professionals at each level,” Arvidson says.

Arvidson also enjoys working with English Language Learning students and seeing his students understand school for the first time.

“Being a part of the English Language Learners program helped me think creatively about how to include comprehensible information within my lessons for students of all learning styles.”

Ken is grateful to the professors in the University of Iowa College of Education for caring so much about teaching students how to support their future students.
