Broton cited in government report on food insecurity

For the first time, the federal government acknowledged food insecurity as a serious problem for American college students in a report titled "FOOD INSECURITY: Better Information Could Help Eligible College Students Access Federal Food Assistance Benefits”.

The report was released Wednesday, Jan. 9, by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which researched the subject at the request of four U.S. Senators: Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA).

The research of Katharine Broton, an assistant professor in Educational Policy and Leadership Studies in the University of Iowa College of Education, was cited as part of the report among 31 studies reviewed by the GAO.
