Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumna Sarah von Schrader (MA ’98, Ph.D ’06 Educational Measurement and Statistics).

Von Schrader is the Associate Director of Research at the Yang-Tan Institute on Employment and Disability at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. The Yang-Tan Institute has approximately 50 staff members dedicated to advancing knowledge, policies, and practice to enhance equal opportunities for people with disabilities through research.

“Every day is new and exciting,” says von Schrader. “From conducting research on employment discrimination charges, to working on understanding the impact of new disability-focused regulations for federal contractors, to serving as a program evaluator for leadership and advocacy programs for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, no two days are ever the same.”

Von Schrader recently completed a study of how employers with federal contracts are changing their practices related to disability recruitment and inclusion in response to updated regulations. Additionally, she is conducting an ongoing study looking at trends, patterns, and context of disability discrimination charges filed under the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

Von Schrader is grateful to the University of Iowa College of Education for providing her with training that helped her be successful in her career.

“My training at the College of Education could not have prepared me better,” says von Schrader. “The academic foundation and practical experience that I received have helped me conduct high quality and relevant research and evaluation throughout my career.”
