Happy “Where Do You Work?” Wednesday! This week meet alumnus Alex Iosbaker (BA ’16 Secondary Education, All Social Studies Endorsement).

Iosbaker is an at-risk social studies teacher at Muscatine High School in Muscatine, Iowa. This is his first year as a teacher.

“My favorite aspect of teaching is the relationships I’m able to build with my students," says Iosbaker. “Although the content is critically important, these relationships are far more impactful on students’ lives and ultimately lead to a positive learning experience.”

Iosbaker says he is grateful for the caliber of the College of Education’s programs and to his mentors Greg Hamot and Benjamin Van Vleet for challenging him to become a better teacher and person.

“The staff and faculty at the College of Education taught me to look at education holistically, and in a way that is beneficial to every student,” Iosbaker says. “Students in Iowa deserve an education of the highest quality, and, luckily, the University of Iowa is leading the charge by preparing their teacher candidates to be self-reflective and innovative future educators. Without the University of Iowa, I would not be the teacher or person I am today.”
