Saturday Art workshop students showing their projects.

As part of community outreach, Art Education offers fall Saturday Art Workshops for young artists in kindergarten through sixth grade. A highly successful program of more than three decades, the Saturday Art Workshops offer artistic opportunities for young students and provide authentic teaching opportunities for College of Education art education pre-service teachers.

Saturday Morning Art Workshop Registration is now closed.
All spaces in the program are filled for 2022 but we hope to work with you and your artist next Fall!

The Art Education Program and the College of Education are delighted to share that our 2022 Saturday Morning Art Workshop will be running a 7-week session for kindergarten through sixth-grade students each Saturday from October 1st to November 12th from 9:30 – 10:45 AM. This year our program will culminate with a professional exhibition and celebration in the Visual Art Building’s Ana Mendieta Gallery on December 10, 2022.

During the workshop your young artists will undertake exploratory art-making activities led by University of Iowa preservice Art Education teachers. The lessons will be dynamic, playful, and suitable for children of all skill levels. No prior experience with art or art materials is necessary. Join us for workshops focused on clay, paint, large-scale sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and more!

The program fee is $70. Partial and full funding are available for families who find this fee to be a barrier and caregivers who are full-time students.
