The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies (EPLS) administers programs designed to prepare education leaders, teachers, professors, and researchers in the fields of higher education, student affairs, educational leadership, culture and society, institutional effectiveness, and school systems.

Programs

EPLS Research Lab

The EPLS Policy Studies Computer Lab is located in N494 Lindquist Center. It was created in the summer of 1996 and contains a multitude of hardware and software resources for both IBM and Macintosh platforms.

Designed to facilitate research and policy analysis by faculty and graduate students, the EPLS Lab also assists professors and teaching assistants with classroom instruction. By enhancing the division's commitment to teaching, research, and service, the EPLS Lab plays an important role in the EPLS division's preparation of future researchers and policymakers.

Bowman named new editor-in-chief of premier journal, Educational Researcher

Two College of Education faculty members – Nicholas Bowman and Brian An – have been named as the new editor-in-chief and co-editor, respectively, for the Educational Researcher, the American Educational Researcher Association’s premier journal.

Nicholas Bowman, professor in Higher Education and Student Affairs, reviews research with students.

Bowman selected as 2023 AERA Fellow for exceptional contributions to education research

Nicholas Bowman, professor of higher education and student affairs at the University of Iowa, and Mary Louise Petersen Chair in Higher Education in the University of Iowa College of Education, has been selected as a 2023 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Fellow.
