Mary Cohen, associate professor of music education, shares how the Oakdale Prison Community Choir helps build communities of caring inside and outside prison walls in her music column in the Iowa City Press-Citizen

Cohen writes, "We want to transform our understanding of justice and inspire people to use people-centered language (“person” rather than “offender”; “returning citizens,” not “ex-cons”), reform sentences, create new restorative practices and engender other needed changes in the justice systems."
