Mindfulness in the Elementary Classroom

Presenter: Jordan Turner, BA Education, E-RYT 200, RCYT

Description: This presentation will walk participants through five, research-tested mindfulness practices to use with elementary students including Check-In, Breath Work, Movement, Guided Mindfulness Practice, and Close of Practice. Through interactive practices, participants will learn about each mindfulness practice, and how they can be combined into a lesson and separated into short brain breaks. Participants will also gain an understanding of how mindfulness supports academic, behavioral, emotional, and physical learning.

Learning Objectives: 1) The learner will identify what mindfulness is. 2) The learner will interpret why mindfulness impacts learners. 3) The learner will develop and manipulate 5 mindful practices to help student self-awareness. 4) The learner will develop and manipulate 5 mindful practices to help student self-regulation. 5) The learner will create and demonstrate a mindful activity to use with their students.
