Mindfulness in the Secondary Classroom

Presenter: Allegra Johnson, MSW, CYT 200, Challenge to Change Inc. - Secondary Education Coordinator

Description: The presentation will walk participants through five, research-tested mindfulness practices to use with secondary students including Check-in, Breath Work, Movement, a Guided Mindfulness Practice, and a Close of Practice. Through interactive practices, participants will learn about each mindfulness technique, and how they can be combined into a lesson and separated into short brain breaks. Participants will also gain an understanding of how mindfulness supports academic, behavioral, emotional, and physical learning.

Learning Objectives: 1)The learner will identify what mindfulness is. 2) The learner will interpret why mindfulness impacts learners. 3) The learner will develop and manipulate 5 mindful practices to help student self-awareness and self-management.
