Description: Assistive technology includes devices, software, or equipment purposefully chosen to help children with reading disabilities complete academic and everyday tasks. Assistive technology facilitates students’ full participation in academic instruction and allows them to demonstrate their learning in equitable ways. This workshop will provide an overview of the kinds of AT that are available to support students’ reading and writing. The workshop will provide guidance on how educators can incorporate assistive technology into instruction effectively and responsibly.
Learning Objective:
Students will be able to describe the purpose of AT. Students will be able to list 5 kinds of AT and the kinds of tasks they support. Students will be able to identify 4 factors to consider when selecting appropriate AT supports for a student.
