Please register here. BTLC Credit: IS, STEAM

Presenter(s): Kay Ramey, Assistant Professor, Learning Sciences and Educational Psychology Darrell Currington, Makerspace Facilitator

Description: In this workshop, students will gain hands-on experience participating in and designing STEAM activities using vinyl cutters, laser cutters, and other subtractive manufacturing tools. For the hands-on STEAM challenge, students will get to make a vinyl cut design or logo of their choice. They will also learn about other subtractive manufacturing tools like laser cutters available in schools and will be provided with additional resources and ideas for activities they might facilitate in their classrooms. Finally, they'll have an opportunity to try designing their own STEAM activity with this group of tools.

Learning Objectives: 1. To become familiar with a variety of makerspace tools, technologies, and materials. 2. To develop the necessary skills and mindsets for facilitating integrated STEAM learning experiences for students. 3. To learn how to design and facilitate interest-driven, inclusive, and culturally sustaining STEAM activities.
