Fitting STEAM Into Your Classroom: Disciplinary Integration, Assessment and Standards Alignment

Please register here. BTLC Credit: IS, STEAM

Presenter(s): Kay Ramey, Assistant Professor, Learning Sciences and Educational Psychology; Darrell Currington, Makerspace Facilitator

Description: In this workshop, students will participate in a hands-on, "quick-fire" STEAM activity and learn how they can best fit STEAM into their classrooms. This will include a discussion of how to integrate tools, knowledge, and practices from different STEAM fields, align activities with standards, and assess STEAM learning. Students will then have an opportunity to practice designing and creating an alignment and assessment plan for a STEAM activity they might use in their future classroom. *This workshop is required for participation in the STEAM track.* Please bring a laptop to the workshop if possible as you will need it for some of the hands-on and collaborative activities.

Learning Objective:

1. To learn how to design and facilitate interest-driven, inclusive, and culturally sustaining STEAM activities. 2. To learn how to align STEAM learning activities with disciplinary content areas and standards, and to develop assessment plans for such activities.
