More about Lorraine Gutz Ragan

Lorraine’s father, E.P. Gutz, was a member of the Hampton School Board in Hampton, Iowa for twelve years and he encouraged his daughter to become a teacher. Lorraine’s aunts, Phyllis Gutz and Marcella Gutz Gibbs, were also teachers.  Education is a heritage that continues to be passed on to Larraine’s six grandchildren.

While a student at Iowa, Lorraine’s professor and advisor, Dr. Jerry Kuhn, and her mentor, Dr. Faye Strayer, were instrumental in inspiring Lorraine’s love of teaching and her respect for the teaching profession. After graduating, Lorraine went on to teach in Marengo, IA; Rochester, MN; and Phoenix, AZ.

She also taught preschool and migrant workers at Tanita Farms in Phoenix in the 1960’s. Prior to her retirement, Lorraine was a partner/owner of Sunpath Children’s Bookshop in Phoenix. She and her husband Keith reside in Paradise Valley, AZ.
