Awarded to a graduate student in the College of Education who has completed some coursework that reflects a commitment to the systematic design and improvement of instructional processes and material and established by Marlys Dunphy (MA '79/EdS '87) in memory of Dr. Bratton.

More about Barry Bratton

Dr. Bratton, an associate professor in the Division of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, He came to The University of Iowa in 1975 as a project director of instructional development in the College of Medicine. He joined the College of Education faculty in 1976, where he taught in the Instructional Design and Technology Program until he retired due to ill health. Dr. Bratton died in 1997 at age 53.

He was widely published in this field and had made a number of presentations nationally and internationally. He was active in several national organizations, having served as president of the Division of Instructional Development for the Association for Educational Communications and Technology. He received various awards for outstanding contributions to the field including an Alumnus Award from the Educational Systems Development Program at Michigan State University where he received his doctorate.
