Office of the Dean

Daniel ClayDear Colleagues and Friends,

Welcome to the University of Iowa College of Education.

I am honored to be coming home to a world-class institution with a strong tradition of academic excellence and that has offered outstanding teaching, research, and engagement opportunities for more than 165 years.

Our faculty, staff, students, and alumni are leaders, scholars and innovators nationally and globally in fields ranging from standardized testing, gifted education and assistive technology to rehabilitation counseling, psychology, reading research, and more.

This is evident in everything from the high national rankings of many of our graduate programs to the excellent placement rates of our Hawkeye teacher leaders across the state, nation, and globe. In fact, our teacher preparation program is consistently ranked the No. 1 program in the state and 86 percent of our graduates are still in education five years post-graduation, much higher than the national average of 51 percent.

I encourage you to explore our website and learn more about our strong teacher preparation programs in elementary and secondary education as well as our 45 rigorous graduate programs. Our academic programs are high quality yet affordable. You will learn that our caring and dedicated faculty and staff are committed to fostering authentic dialogue about diversity and pursuing research and service opportunities with a strong social justice focus. We care about serving real world problems.

Our college is also home to eight research centers dedicated to everything from gifted education and talent development to measurement and assessment, assistive technology and reading research.
