Presenter: Sheila Barron, PhD (Educational Measurement and Statistics)

Today’s college students are asked to join a world where statistical reasoning skills are crucial, possibly without ever having been required to take courses which taught those skills. This one-hour workshop provides an introduction to statistical literacy. We will use several recent articles in education journals to define statistical thinking and provide examples of statistical information in the field of education. All examples were chosen to be illuminating – some as exemplars and others representing defective and/or misleading reasoning.
