Dr. Mary Cohen will be presenting Room 217's June webinar on The Practices and Possibilities with Choral Singing in Prison Contexts. Dr. Cohen has a joint position with the Teaching and Learning Department and the School of Music at the University of Iowa. Her area of research is choral singing and well-being, with an emphasis on music programs in prison, and investigates the role of writing and songwriting in the lives of people who are incarcerated. Dr. Cohen is also the founder of the Oakdale Community Choir, which is comprised of a group of men incarcerated at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center, and men and women from the community.
