Shawn Datchuk, assistant professor of special education, studies the writing development of K-12 students with and without disabilities. During this talk, he'll share how toddlers set the stage for their writing development by drawing, and how teachers later help them develop foundational writing skills (e.g. handwriting, spelling, sentences, and paragraphs) by having them write in response to pictures and drawings.
