Research indicates that communities of color, the LGBTQ-identified population, Native American populations, immigrants and refugees, among other minorities are often differently impacted by and disproportionately identified as in need of mental health supports. Often the resources available to these communities are inadequate or fail to address unique and specific overlapping identities individuals bring to a variety of contexts. This session will explore premiere considerations for classroom teachers as they negotiate and navigate providing the best and most appropriate supports for students to realize success in schools and communities. An interactive panel of community leaders and teachers will present on specific situations that teachers might encounter.
