Presenter: Dr. Katie Schabilion

This session will provide information about how gifted students can be identified for programming that many states, including Iowa, mandate for all school districts.  The National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) has a campaign that urges all educators to “See” gifted children, and to focus on identifying traditionally underrepresented students, including diverse populations.  We will discuss traditional ways of identifying students (test scores), as well as the Iowa mandate to use “multiple measures.”  We’ll share a teacher checklist that can be used to help identify advanced learners by looking for characteristics that might be surprising.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa-sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact the Baker Teacher Leader Center, 319-335-5623, in advance.
