Thursday, March 8, 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
TLC Commons (N110 LC)

Presenter: Susan Lagos Lavenz, PhD, Emeritus Faculty

This workshop is designed to share and discuss unique features and teaching experiences with the children of military personnel.

Opportunities will include discussion of Camp Adventure USA, a program that sends American college students to American military bases, embassies, and British Military installations throughout the world. Students run day camps, swim lessons, as well as overnight and sports camps for the children of military personnel, ranging from age 0-18.

Discussion will also include teaching opportunities for the Department of Defense Schools. The U.S. government is regularly looking for teachers to work abroad. The children of military service members who are stationed overseas are educated at schools administered by the U.S. Department of Defense in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Puerto Rico and Guam. In addition to the children from military families, these fully-accredited schools are attended by the children of civilian employees of the Department of Defense. More than 86,000 students are served by approximately 8,700 educators at elementary and secondary DoDDS schools. Most of these schools are located on American military bases in NATO countries in Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia and North America.
