Presenter Panel:

  • Dr. Lauri Stange, Marriage and Family Therapist
  • Don Rhoades - UI Veterans Employment Specialist
  • Julia Rose - VA Medical Center
  • Laura Boddicker -  veteran, mother, and clinical mental health counselor

Due to the lack of active military service bases in Iowa, the children and families of our military are often attending school and living in communities that may not fully be aware of their unique needs and assets.  This workshop will address ways that teachers and other helping professionals can more effectively recognize their situations and develop strategies to address them.  Panelists will discuss the many resources that can be mobilized to assist these families, and provide basic information about the agencies and programs that can assist in optimizing the mental health and well-being of military service members, their children and family members.  The panelists include a school counselor educator, Army veteran and long-term veterans services specialist, representative of the mental health services in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, and Navy veteran, mother and mental health counselor.
