Please register online. TLC Credit: Traditional

Presenters: Dr. Gholdy Muhammad, Associate Professor of Language and Literacy at Georgia State University and author of the best-selling book, Cultivating Genius: An Equity Model for Culturally and Historically Responsive Literacy, Julia Torres, veteran language arts teacher and librarian in Denver Public schools, and Crystal Montiero, PBS Digital Innovator All-Star and educator for East Providence School District.

About the Series:

Using digital tools available from PBS LearningMedia, and perspectives from leading scholars, this Virtual Professional Learning Series will explore how to rethink and disrupt many of the false historical narratives that are frequently taught.

We will explore media literacy techniques to help teach more accurate, complete histories: how to use media-rich resources to scaffold existing curriculum; how to help students better evaluate the impact of  complicated historical figures; how to ensure the full American experience is being captured; and how to teach all of this material in a way that is developmentally appropriate. Educators can earn participation credit for three hours.

Episode 3: American Narratives - Closing Keynote, November 15, 2021 at 7:00 PM EDT

Guest speakers will highlight how history has been taught and tools educators can use to help their students better understand  authentic, complete histories. Together we will explore how to reframe curriculum through modern frameworks and practical tools.
