Ceremony for bachelor of arts graduates majoring in elementary education, art education, English education, mathematics Education, music education, science education, social studies education, or world language education, or in Educational Studies and Human Relations (ESHR), the College of Education’s non-licensure major. Graduates will also be recognized for Teacher Education Program completion and recommendation for state licensure.
Dean Dan Clay will give the welcome, and Clay and UI President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees.
Mary Mascher (BA ’75, MA ’82), state representative in the Iowa House of Representatives, 1995—2023, will be the keynote speaker. Mitchell Kelly, clinical professor of educational psychology and director of the Office of Graduate Teaching Excellence, will be the faculty speaker. Makayla Smith, of Davenport, Iowa, who is completing the elementary education program, will be the student speaker. Smith will receive a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Education.
Mark McDermott, associate dean for teacher education and student services, will recognize those who completed the Teacher Education Program as well as those who completed the Educational Studies and Human Relations (ESHR) program, and College of Education program coordinators will individually recognize graduating students.
